1. Why Nail Salons Are Taking Over The High Street

   Manicures are now the UK’s most popular beauty treatment. You may have noticed that nail salons have been popping up all over the place and taking over the high streets. With these treatments being in more demand then ever despite the impact of the pandemic, it is certainly something to be aware of.

   With more people than ever wanting to spend their cash on looking and feeling good, nail salons have found this luxury yet affordable treatment to be in high demand.

   With global data predicting that the beauty industry will experience a 2.8% compound annual growth rate to 2023, it shows that despite the pandemic affecting high street retail, beauty salons have not experienced the same effect. Instead beauty salons have experienced a steady growth.

   

   INSTAGRAM INFLUENCE

   People are becoming more image focussed in part due to the influence of social media platforms such as Instagram. There has been an increase in turning to nail treatments due to it’s accessibility. With no long-term commitment, whilst creating the same feel good factor, it is one of the easiest treatments to turn to for a boost.

   Summer is always the busiest period, but particularly this year I can’t keep up with the demand. I think Instagram has a big part to play as people are becoming more image conscious and looking to get an Instaworthy shot. I get a majority of my customers through Instagram as they can easily see my work and prices.

   Dulux Colour of the Year 2020 has been unveiled as the beautiful soft hue Tranquil Dawn; a beautiful soft green somewhere between a grey and a green.

   The colour inspired theme for 2020 is re-connection. In a busy world modern world where technology has dominated, Dulux want a colour with ‘a human touch’.

   Dulux say this newly created shade ‘reflects a growing desire to understand what it is to be human, at a time when advances in technology are making us feel increasingly disconnected from each other’.

   What determines Dulux’s Colour of the Year?

   The culmination of around 18 months of research, created by Dulux following the advice of a panel of experts from the fields of interior design and architecture, as well as trend forecasters, who look not only at key colours emerging in the fashion and design world but also at cultural, social and socioeconomic factors, such as what people are buying, where we are travelling, and what we want and need most.

   

   The soft green is a fresh hue, and unlike anything else on the market. It’s the ideal neutral to team with on-trend deep rich tones such as black and deep petrol blue. It also pairs perfectly with neutral oatmeal tones, dusky pinks and lilacs – all key colours throughout next year’s interiors trends.

   Now in its 17th year, the panel – chaired by Heleen van Gent from AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetic Centre – identified an overwhelming desire for reconnection.

   Heleen explains, ‘the panel identified that the world has a growing desire to understand what makes us human. Against a background of increasing technological power, we want to understand our place in society and how we can make a positive impact on it. We need a fresh purpose, to be the architects of our own future.’
