Every year the design industry wait in anticipation for the colour of year to be announced by Pantone, and this year feels very special indeed. Not only has it been heralded as the ‘It’ colour for 2022, but Very Peri is in fact a brand new colour created by Pantone for the first time ever in the history of its Colour of the Year forecasts.

A happy feeling Lavender purple shown here on pantone branded mugs

    Transformative Times

‘We are living in transformative times,’ say Pantone. ‘Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through. As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways.’

Encouraging personal inventiveness and creativity, Pantone describe Very Peri as a ‘dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet red undertone’.

    Promoting Happiness and Positivity

Very Peri has been described as ‘the happiest and warmest of all the blue hues’. With the challenges faced by everyone over the past couple of years, we think that anything that promotes happiness and positivity can only be a good thing.

In the home, Very Peri add fun and a sense of lightness to spaces, working well with both dark and light colour palettes. This versatile shade is suited to different materials, textures and finishes.

Versital has two ideal options that work perfectly with Pantone’s Very Peri:

    Penthouse

A beautiful bold lavender marble with swirls of veins throughout.

  3. Top 5 Bathroom Trends for 2021

    Go Bold and Stay Home

Bathrooms are now less confined to clinical white, polished ceramic and a clean contemporary feel. Instead people are becoming more confident about going busy and bold in bathrooms and WC’s.

    1. Luxurious Styling

As homeowners, we tend to use our bathrooms at least twice a day. Studies have shown that the average female spends at least 29 minutes in this space each day so it’s become a necessity to ensure that bathroom design delivers an at-home spa-like atmosphere so we can linger for longer.

There are extensive ranges of luxurious showers and heads allowing the creation of an indulgent showering experience in your own home. Connection between water and wellbeing has never been easier with waterfall shower heads and walk-in showers to replace bulkier units.

    2. Greenery not just for the Garden

In addition to luxury panels, Biophilia – the integration and inclusion of nature as a focal point – isn’t going anywhere.

A biophilic bathroom design will boast certain patterns that reduce stress and improve creativity while featuring forms and materials that emulate those found in the great outdoors. Add greenery with plants, real or faux, soft furnishings or wallpaper.

    3. Fluted finishes

Intricate surfaces have been given a contemporary twist in the bathroom. Add detail with edge details on tops, skirting or even dado.

    4. Warm earth and terracotta tones

Embrace natural pigments to turn up the heat in your bathroom scheme.

Alongside the mood for comfort comes the move towards warmer tones, including terracotta, rust, caramel and biscuit. Try contrasting them with black taps or a black basin to add definition.

    5. Marble still in the limelight

Marble is definitely enjoying its moment in the limelight. You will still see plenty of bathrooms that being planned has some form of marble in it. ‘It is a beautiful natural looking material which comes in a wide variety of colourings, markings and veining’s.

Panels in ever popular Arabesque contrasted by Gloucester grey marble vanity top.

But remember, it doesn’t have to be real marble which can bring some problems with the natural material. Faux marble’s like Versital offer the option for the appearance of marble, whilst also being non porous and stain proof.

People are being more adventurous with marble, incorporating greens, blues, pinks, basically anything a bit out of the ordinary to make their own mark.

  4. How To Choose The Correct Shower Tray; Stone Resin Shower Trays Vs Acrylic

Huge range of Shower Trays in Various Shapes, Sizes and Colours

There are lots of shower trays available on the market in a variety of shapes, sizes, colours, finishes and materials. To help make the choice of which shower tray is best for you, we have put together a step by step guide of what is available to make the best of your bathroom.

    Ceramic/Fireclay

This is the material used to make Belfast sinks or urinal slabs. The trays are of high quality, but are extremely heavy and more often used for commercial applications where frequent use and heavy wear is a requirement.

Ceramic trays can be hard to install, but are very durable and can last a long time. One of the main problems to be aware of with ceramic trays is that they can easily chip if you drop anything heavy on them.

    Acrylic

The same material as used for acrylic baths. Lightweight usually around 4.5mm thick and reinforced with wood. These do allow a greater flexibility, but with more flexibility comes a greater risk of breakage. Acrylic shower trays are mostly manufactured within standard sizes and with standard waste positions. You therefore, cannot fit them into an odd shaped space in turn limiting your possibilities, especially in older buildings.

Acrylic shower trays are generally lighter than many alternative options, meaning that the installation can be easier. However they are rarely associated with high end designs.

    Fiberglass

Fiberglass is a cheaper alternative to acrylic with very similar properties. However, a big drawback is that it is more brittle, meaning that its life span is shorter. Fiberglass itself is a porous substance that is then protected by a layer of waterproof paint. Over time this protective paint can begin to wear off, causing leaking as well as a dull and unattractive appearance.

    Stone Resin Shower Trays

Stone resin shower trays have become the most popular choice. Resin is a mixture of natural minerals and a resin compound that offers a fantastic compromise between the heavier ceramic/fire clay products, and the lightweight acrylic trays.  They offer a solid structure, are long- lasting, warm to the touch and are available in a huge range of finishes.  All Versital shower trays are stone resin shower trays.

As well as being a brilliant compromise some are available bespoke and made to measure. Versital shower trays are all completely bespoke and made to measure. This allows for them to be made to fit any bathroom space or bathroom design perfectly. They are a great choice for bathrooms that need an awkward shaped shower tray, or a room that needs something different to what what is available with standard sizes and shapes offered.

Stone resin shower trays are also long lasting and can look like new for years.

How to Choose the Correct Shape and Size

Shower trays come in a variety of different sizes and configurations. It’s very important when choosing your stone resin shower tray to take into account the plug hole positions and whether it is a left hand or right hand tray. The most commonly found shapes available on the market today are rectangle, square, quadrant and neo angle. The neo angle shower tray is also known as the Penta or extended Penta by some brands.

Versital offer all of these shapes in a huge range of different size and colour options. Take a look at these examples and ideas of Versital shower trays to help you with choosing the right shape for your new bathroom installation.

Marble, Granite, Stone and Sparkle Finishes

With Versital stone resin shower trays there is also a wide range of fabulous looking finishes, all with category 2 anti slip bases. Choose from traditional granites like ‘Graphite’ or ‘Noire’, luxurious marbles such as ‘Royal Pavillion’ and for something really show stopping, push the boat out with a black sparkly ‘Noire Reflect’. Each colour is made using natural minerals and pigments, making it a stunning addition to any bathroom.

Unlike real marble or granite Versital shower trays are completely no porous and will not leak or watermark over time, looking as good as new for years after installation.

    Bespoke Shower Trays

If your bathroom needs something more bespoke for an unusual shape or size, or just a perfect fit, you might want to look at a bespoke shower tray.  Bespoke shower trays are exactly what they say – fully bespoke and made to measure to suit whatever bathroom issues you might have. Whether you need to go round an odd shape, or just want something larger than usual.

Making this the perfect option if the standard shapes and sizes are just not right for what you require.

Contemporary bathroom design at Royal Quays Marina Newcastle

The new building is a stunning contemporary design which incorporates a café bar restaurant as well as the new washrooms. Situated right on the dock edge the glazed frontage gives superb views for diners over the boats moored in the marina, whilst the interior accommodates modern new washrooms for use by marina users.

A Daring Look for Royal Quays Marina Newcastle Thanks to Versital Shower Panels

Versital supplied stone resin wall panels and splashbacks in distinctive colours such as ‘Shiraz’, ‘Tangoed’, ‘Dorothy’, ‘Ice White’ and ‘Wenge’ to create 8 contemporary, spacious shower enclosures and washrooms that will serve the owners, family and crew of the 350 boats moored in the marina, as well as the many boats that visit this busy marina each year.

“Our unique surface material is 100% non-porous, making it a great solution for commercial projects such as this.  The Marina’s bathrooms will look as good as new for many, many years to come as no stains or exposure to water can compromise their appearance. What’s more, they will never need to grout a tile again.”
Gemma Stockberger, Head of Marketing and Sales for Versital UK.

Bright orange bespoke stone resin shower panels

Versital’s non-porous, stone resin shower panels and splashbacks were made to measure for the Marina, allowing the design team to specify the exact shape, size. The design team picked the final colour selection from a range of 90 colours and finishes such as marble, granite, sparkle and high gloss.

BrightBlue Studio, the RIBA Registered Architects who designed the Marina Building, specified bespoke Versital shower panels to provide a low maintenance bathroom solution.

“The Royal Quays Marina team were interested in more dynamic ideas, colours and products to invigorate the spaces, allowing us to flex our creative muscles. We specified Versital as we knew they could deliver a bespoke, easy to maintain solution as well as exciting colour options and smooth, consistent delivery.”
Henry Amos, Director at BrightBlue Studio

Royal Quays Marina which is widely regarded as the premier boating facility in the area wanted to cement this reputation by making sure that the new washrooms would be the ‘best on the coast’ and to ensure that any sailor who has endured a cold wet sail to reach the marina would be rewarded with first class facilities. The new facilities even include a full-size bath for a long hot soak if required! A little touch of luxury rarely found in a marina.

“We are overwhelmed by the feedback so far from Marina users and the community. They love the building and new facilities. We were especially impressed at the way Bright Blue and Versital were to create such a bright and cheerful space. We are delighted with the results, and yes, they are the best washrooms on the coast!”
